 Supervisor of Public Works

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Infrastructure, the Supervisor of Public Works is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the public works area – inclusive of planning, scheduling, prioritizing and training of employees working in the Public Works Department.  The Public Works area includes public roads, sidewalks, storm sewers, water distribution, storm water management, Parks, Arena as well as public facilities etc. 


  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Municipal Public Works or equivalent operational environment
  • Minimum of 3 years in a supervisory role
  • A valid class 3 Alberta driver’s license is required
  • Must have the ability to work within Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Must have training and 5 years’ experience in water main, sewer, road, sidewalk, parks, building     maintenance in addition procedural development and procurement skills
  • The candidate accepting this position will be required to respond 24/7 for emergency conditions.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Planning, scheduling, prioritization and management of the day-to-day operation of public works area, municipal roads, weed control, etc.
  • Maintain standards for annual inspections of all regulatory and warning traffic signs for retro reflectivity.
  • Manage, organize, & resolve unexpected factors and conditions such as personnel issues, equipment breakdown, weather conditions, problems, complaints, etc.
  • Prepare and supervise employee day to day work assignments and schedules.
  • Address customer inquiries and concerns
  • Prepare employee pay sheets, purchase orders and ancillary requisitions.
  • Review and approve various small material purchase orders for all areas of Public Works.
  • Implement and comply with the collective agreement.
  • Ensure compliance to all relevant legislation and regulations
  • Act as Weed Inspector
  • Manage contractors to ensure acceptable performance on related projects

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefit package. Salary commensurate with experience.

Must be willing to relocate to Swan Hills.
