Wildfire Update

Wildfire Update

The evacuation order remains in effect.  Cool temperatures and rain have reduced the fire behavior on all of the Grizzly Complex Fires (SWF063, SWF064, SWF057) north of town.  Heavy equipment crews continued with fireguards and hand crews continue to work managing hot areas and potential flare-ups.

The local fire department, public works, and mutual aid partners continued to finalize fire protection initiatives in Town with the potential that most of these tanks etc., will remain in place for the duration of the fire season.   All utilities remained on today with no outages.

Essential personnel begin making arrangements for a re-entry.  There is currently no re-entry at the time of this post, and this will be communicated to the public once all trigger points for a safe return have been met.   This planning is almost complete.  Stay tuned for an update tomorrow morning.

Thank you to the town of Barrhead  and Westlock for keeping our people secure and making them feel like part of your community as we work towards a re-entry.  You continue to be amazing.

Attached is a picture of Mayor Wilson with Sandra Thomsen of the Super A, who has kept all of our staff, firefighters, mutual aid partners, RCMP and all those who stayed behind fed and supplied.  Her and the Super A have been amazing during all of this.  Thank you from the bottom of our hearts Sandra and team!
